The Flex Group, previously known as Flex Maintenance, provide high quality construction, maintenance and compliance services in Hull. Some of their services include property refurbishments, conversions, plumbing and electrical work, and joinery. Flex Maintenance became The Flex Group to reflect the company’s growth and extensive range of services.
They approached us back in 2010 when they were a start-up to develop a bespoke project management tool tailored to their specific requirements.

We spoke to Richard Blowman, Director at Flex Maintenance, to see how they utilise their tailored project management tool.
Q: How do you use your project management tool?
A: We use the tool to log and manage all of our jobs. It allows us to monitor the project and communicate easily with the client through the messaging portal and traffic light system.
Q: Do your team find it easy to use?
A: Yes, it is incredibly user friendly. It was designed this way to reduce the operating time required.
Q: Do you utilise any data from the tool?
A: Yes, we send data to a third-party integration who are able to extrapolate and interpret analytics for us.

Q: What are the most effective features of your bespoke PMT?
A: The storage of information is key for us. Individual job IDs are created where all documentation, estimates and invoices can be stored and easily accessed by us and our clients. The traffic light system shows job progress and is accessed by our clients, providing the needed transparency.
Q: How has using this tool affected your business?
A: We’ve utilised the tool since the start of Flex Maintenance 15 years ago and it has encouraged us to be efficient both in terms of timings and processes. We chose to have a bespoke tool made as opposed to an off the shelf one to specifically tailor the features to our requirements.
