Background

In 2020, our videography team were recruited to film and deliver live video coverage of The Business Day event, which took place on the 11th of June 2021.

The Business Day is an annual networking event for local businesses to come together and gain insight at the final event of Humber Business Week. The event was organised by Stephen Parnaby OBE in conjunction with Bridlington Spa and showcased a wide and diverse range of companies operating within the Hull & East Yorkshire Region.

What We Were Asked To Do

Due to ongoing concerns with the global pandemic, this event was co-ordinated slightly differently compared to previous years and instead was a three-hour live-streamed magazine show, presented in-person by Gyles Brandreth.

As media production partner for this event, we were responsible for delivering live video coverage of the event, which featured a variety of guest speakers and commissioned films.

Preparation

In preparation for the Business Day event, our videography and creative team met up with the event co-ordinators at Bridlington Spa to efficiently plan the live stream for the event. After developing a schedule, it was agreed that our videography team would use three broadcast cameras in the main auditorium, as well as two additional cameras in the theatre to capture high-quality live footage throughout the event. By using a variety of different cameras, our team were able to capture a diverse range of different camera angles including wide-angle-lensed shots, close ups and long and medium shots.

Video Clips for the Live Stream

As well as delivering live video coverage of the event, our videography team would be responsible for preparing a series of pre-recorded video clips which would be presented throughout the live-stream event including an opening sequence and multiple sting clips in between the live interviews.

Additionally, our team would prepare a series of short films where we interviewed business owners from a diverse range of companies operating within the Hull & East Yorkshire Region.

Animations for the Live Stream

In addition to filming the event, our graphic design and animation team would also create a range of bespoke animations which would feature throughout the live stream. These animations would be seen throughout the live stream including an opening test card, an animated sequence of the event sponsors, and a clock counting down the start of the live stream event. Our videography team would also ensure that live stream would include live editing elements such as name and title graphics for the keynote speakers. By utilising all of these additional visual elements and pre-recorded footage, this would contribute towards delivering a professional and high-quality live stream.

The Stream

One the day of the event, the stream was broadcast live from Bridlington Spa and could be watched globally via YouTube. With a total of five cameras and two locations, the stream was vision mixed live on the day, combining live footage with high quality graphics and pre-recorded content in to one cleanly mixed feed.

With all the equipment set up and ready to go, the stream started at 10:00am and ran for over three and a half hours. Throughout the event, our Creative Lead Jack Milson was responsible for overseeing and directing the live stream. During this time, Jack communicated via headset with the camera operators and production staff to ensure the event was running on time and follow the event schedule. As the event came to a close, we were delighted that the event had been a complete success, and there had been no delays or technical disruptions during the live stream.

Summary

Due to the subsequent effects of the recent global pandemic and UK lockdown, we firmly believe that we will see an overall increase in the number of live streamed events and meetings. Furthermore, we believe that there are many benefits of running a live video stream of your event and/or meeting.

For instance, a live video stream has the ability to reach a much larger online audience. Additionally, research suggests that 30% of people who watch a livestream of an event will attend the same event in person the following year. Furthermore, once an event has been live-streamed, this video footage can then be archived and viewed again and used for future digital marketing activities.
