Introduction

For many years, the only way to capture aerial video footage was by hiring a full-sized helicopter and a licensed pilot to navigate a camera crew. As you would imagine, this process was incredibly costly, meaning that aerial video footage was typically only accessible to blockbuster movie makers and businesses with huge marketing budgets. However, with drone videography, capturing unique and high-quality video footage has never been easier and affordable! From indoor conferences to outdoor events, drones can capture stunning aerial video footage, which can then be used to create high-quality digital marketing content. Using eye-catching aerial footage can also help your business stand out from the crowd, and fly above the competition (pun definitely intended!)

In this blog, we will explore the applications of drone videography within different industries and discuss what benefits this innovative technology can bring to stakeholders.

But before we fly in, we should probably give a brief explanation as to what this amazing technology is!

What is Drone Videography?

Drone videography is the process used in capturing still images and video via a remotely operated drone. Drones can also be commonly known as an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or alternatively an unmanned aircraft system (UAS). In essence, drone videography allows users to capture images and video which ordinarily might not be accessible or possible.

The most distinct benefit of using drone videography, is that this can capture stunning aerial video footage which can provide a unique view of a location or event. With this, drone videography can be perfect for capturing a distinct vantage point of your business through a bird’s eye point-of-view.

Another great benefit is that due to advancements and innovation in technology, drone videography can capture spectacular high-quality video footage. In recent years, drones are now able to shoot and capture full HD video footage and record at 4K resolution and higher!

Drone videography can also capture inconspicuous video footage with minimal disruption to those within the filming environment. Furthermore, drone devices function with very little noise, meaning that these can be used to capture video footage in peaceful environments without causing disruption.

Due to advancements within technology, drone videography has also become increasingly affordable and readily available to the general public.  As a result, this means that businesses of every size (including those with modest marketing budgets) can afford to produce professional and high-quality aerial footage which can help to stand out from the competition.

Applications of Drone Videography

Now that we understand the potential of this amazing technology, we can now explore some of the amazing ways in which different industries have utilised drone videography.

Construction

Here at Eon Visual Media, we have collaborated with many businesses operating within the construction industry to produce video projects utilising drone videography.

One benefit of using drone videography within this sector, is that our drones can capture stunning areal footage of a construction site and showcase the development process. Furthermore, as construction sites can often be a dangerous environment, drone videography allows video footage to be captured, whilst also ensuring the safety of the videography team.

Some examples of our drone videography work within the construction industry can be seen in the video showreel below.

Sports

Another industry which is greatly benefitting from utilising drone videography is the sports events sector.

With advancements and innovation in technology, drones are now able to shoot and capture full HD video footage and record at 4K resolution and higher! Furthermore, with advance developments in gimbal and 3-axis stabilisation, drones are incredibly stable in-flight meaning that they can capture sturdy video footage whilst performing tricky action shots. As a result, this means that drones are the ideal solution for capturing aerial and up-close video footage of sports events.

Here at Eon Visual Media, we have used drones to capture video footage from a variety of different sports events. For example, in our video below we used drones to capture some incredible high-quality footage of the Hull Marathon.

Outdoor Events

Another industry which has taken full advantage of drone videography is the events sector.

With this, large outdoor events such as music festivals, parades, weddings and markets can utilise drone videography to capture stunning aerial shots of the surroundings. Using drone footage can provide an immersive and interactive experience for event attendees whilst also allowing viewers to witness the sheer size and scale of a large outdoor event.

A great example can be seen in the video below, which shows a bird’s eye view of the Glastonbury Music Festival. This video does a fantastic job in showing viewers the vast size of the outdoor music event.

Promotional Videos

One of the biggest benefits of utilising drone videography, is that this can allow businesses to capture unique footage which can be used in promotional video content.

Furthermore, drones are not just limited to just capturing outdoor video footage, as there are some businesses who have the capacity to capture aerial footage in an enclosed indoor space.

For example, at Eon Visual Media, we have used drones to capture unique action shots of businesses operating within large indoor warehouses and factories. As these spaces can be quite large, this has allowed us to capture high angled birds-eye-view shots of staff operating within this environment.

By featuring both internal and external drone footage, this can help businesses to produce a unique and eye-catching video production.

A great example of this can be seen in our drone videography showreel below, including a combination of indoor and outdoor drone video footage of a B&M warehouse.
