Background
In September 2021, our videography team were recruited by Aura to film and deliver live video coverage of the annual Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) Conference. The event was titled ‘Aura CDT Conference in Offshore Wind Energy and the Environment’ and brought together exciting keynote speakers from the offshore wind industry and provides a platform for PhD researchers to showcase their research.
Due to ongoing concerns with the global pandemic, this was a hybrid event which featured a variety of in-person and remote guest speakers. The hybrid event was hosted by Aura and held at the Aura Innovation Centre, however, additionally the live stream could also be viewed online by a local and global audience.
In this case study, we will explore how our videography team coordinated a live broadcast for the Aura CDT Conference.
What We Did
As part of our set up, our videography team used a variety of professional video equipment to capture high-quality footage for the event. Furthermore, the live stream contained a diverse range of different camera angles including wide-angle-lensed shots, close ups and long and medium shots.
In addition to filming the event, our graphic design and animation team also created a range of bespoke animations which were featured throughout the live stream. One example of this can be seen at the very start of the video as a clock counted down the start of the live stream event.
Additionally, our videography team ensured that live video stream included live editing elements such as opening and closing graphics as well as name and title graphics for the keynote speakers. Including all of these additional visual elements allowed us to add a high level of production quality to the live stream and the overall event.
Summary
Due to the subsequent effects of the recent global pandemic and UK lockdown, we firmly believe that we will see an overall increase in the number of live streamed events and meetings. Furthermore, we believe that there are many benefits of running a live video stream of your event and/or meeting.
For instance, a live video stream has the ability to reach a much larger online audience. Additionally, research suggests that 30% of people who watch a livestream of an event will attend the same event in person the following year. Furthermore, once an event has been live-streamed, this video footage can then be archived and viewed again and used for future digital marketing activities.
