Background
Hull City Council approached us here at Eon Visual Media to capture some footage of Coronation events funded by Hull City Council in the local area. Part of this included attending community events throughout Hull with various businesses and charities, whilst they hosted arts and crafts sessions and community get-togethers.
As well as this, they asked us to film the various entertainments and performances in the town centre on the day of the Coronation itself, as crowds gathered to see the crowning of the new monarch.
Community Events
Local charity ScrapStore provided arts and crafts supplies for a variety of community-led events across Hull, including at Dragon Park and Hull4Heroes. Both events saw locals engage in some Coronation creativity, decorating flags and crowns, and making decorations for the Coronation itself!
Dyslexia Sparks held the grand opening of their Hull office with food stalls, ice creams and face paints, and celebrated the Coronation in an event bringing their community together. It was an exciting moment to film the cutting of the gold ribbon!
King Charles’ Commemorative Coin
Hull City Council announced that every child born in the Women and Children’s Hospital in Hull during the coronation month of May would be presented with a commemorative coin when the birth was registered, to signify a very special moment in history to the new-born babies in Hull. The first baby to be presented was Riley-James; Viking FM and other Hull news outlets attended the event, where the first baby, Riley-James, was presented his coin.
Coronation Day
King Charles III’s official Coronation date, Saturday 6th May 2023, saw Hull streets closed in the town centre to allow the crowds to gather to celebrate as the Coronation was live streamed on a screen in the city centre. Giant Beefeaters and royal guards on stilts paraded through the city centre as events, entertainment and performances were put on for the royal-loving crowds!
We were able to showcase an artist who had spent 5 days creating a sand carving of King Charles’ head and filmed him as he got to work creating a sand Buckingham Palace during the celebrations.
Outcome
We were able to capture some great over-head shots of the crowds the moment the crown was presented to the new monarch, showing the community of Hull celebrating being a part of history.
It was an honour to be asked to film so many special Coronation events in the region by Hull City Council, and we managed to get some great footage of the spirit of Hull!
